If you are looking for something meaningful to do in the name of Jesus Christ, and for his Kingdom, Trinity Presbyterian Church is the place for you!

At Trinity, one does not need to be a member in order to serve Christ in the life of his church.   Whether one becomes a member or not, all one needs to do is express an interest in a given area, and when we are aware of that interest we will make an invitation for you to become involved.   Attending a New Members’ class offers those in attendance a formal opportunity to fill out an interest survey, which assists us in getting people into their areas of interest.   After a person is involved, has had the opportunity to learn more about the congregation and its ministry, has demonstrated the ability and willingness to serve at a higher level in the church, and has become a communicant member, he or she is eligible for nomination to the offices of Elder or Deacon.

The offices of Elder and Deacon are two of the three ordained offices in the Presbyterian Church USA (the third being the office of Minister of Word and Sacrament).   In order to qualify for these two offices at Trinity Presbyterian Church, a person must have been an active communicant member of the church for at least one year.   Each year a nominating committee is elected by the congregation and charged with the task of nominating leaders to serve on the Session (the church governing board made up of Elders) and the Board of Deacons.   The committee goes through an exhaustive review of each possible candidate to determine the seriousness, dedication and commitment, and demonstrated faith practice that comprise the necessary qualifications for service at this level.   After a slate of nominees is created, it is then presented to the Annual Meeting of the congregation for election.   At that meeting, the floor is always opened for further nominations.   Upon election, we conduct a service of ordination and installation, which is required before these individuals take office.    This process is a celebration in the life of our church, as we give thanks to God for calling certain individuals to leadership roles in our congregational life together.

Election and ordination as an Elder or Deacon in the Presbyterian Church (USA) is for life as long as one remains a member of the denomination.   Elders who are elected and ordained in the local congregation are qualified to serve the denomination at every level of governance, from local to regional to national, and this is what assures that decision making in our Church is equally shared by lay persons and clergy.

At Trinity, accomplished service also opens the doors for members to be asked to serve in community ministries as well.   At the present time we have many members who serve on various ecumenical and community boards and organizations, resulting from their good service and leadership in the life of this congregation.   It is a great joy and blessing in the life of Trinity Presbyterian Church that we do equip the saints for service in the whole of God’s creation!    You are invited to join us in this important journey.
